Wizards of the Coast has announced that the Harry Potter CCG is 'the company's most successful new product launch to date.'  Starters and boosters for the new game were launched at Gencon (see 'Gencon Jumps'), and have consistently appeared on ICv2's Top 10 Cool Games list (see 'Top 10 Cool Games').  According to WotC, the initial game has been through three printings in its first three months of existence.  Hasbro also cited the Harry Potter CCG as one of the reasons for its better-than-expected financial performance in the third quarter (see 'Hasbro Q3 Surprisingly Strong'). 

 

A new Quidditch Cup expansion is shipping to stores to coincide with the release of the Harry Potter movie on November 16th.  The movie looks to open huge, and will undoubtedly give the game another boost.  The Harry Potter franchise is another great 'outreach' product to introduce new consumers to CCGs, and next weekend is the time to align merchandising, window diplays, and other marketing tools to alert customers and potential customers to the existence of this game.
