Brave Story, an anime feature film based on the novel by Miyuki Miyabe and produced by Gonzo and the Fuji Television Network, will be shown at the prestigious International Film Festival at Cannes on Monday, May 22nd.  Warner Bros. acquired the distribution rights to Brave Story (see 'Warner Bros. Nabs Rights to Anime Feature') and was undoubtedly instrumental in getting the film on the program at Cannes.

In 2004 Fuji TV invested more than $3 million in Gonzo with the expressed purpose of developing some major properties including the all-ages fantasy Brave Story, which was directed by Koichi Chigira and produced at a cost of more than $10 million, and represents an attempt by Gonzo (Samurai Seven) to produce a top tier film that could compete with the works of Studio Ghibli's Hayao Miyazaki.  The film is scheduled to be released theatrically in Japan this summer--so far no date has been set for a U.S. release.
