Cartoon Books has announced the return of the massive omnibus 1,300-page, black-and-white trade paperback edition of Jeff Smith's Bone ($39.95), which will be available again in September. The One Volume Bone, which debuted at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2004 and sold over 50,000 copies, has been out of print for more than a year -- and copies have been regularly selling for more than $100 on eBay.
The return of One Volume Bone was made possible by an agreement with Scholastic Books, which is publishing Bone in a multi-volume full color edition. The tremendous success of the Scholastic Bone releases, which have sold over a million copies (see 'Goosebumps Graphic Novels'), obviously indicated to Scholastic that the existence of the One Volume Bone in black-and-white was no impediment to sales of the color volumes.
