At Image Expo, Skottie Young announced I Hate Fairyland, a new ongoing creator-owned series for Image Comics launching in Fall 2015.

Skottie Young built a huge audience for his work at Marvel with his work on the Oz books with Eric Shanower, his variant covers, and more recently with Rocket Raccoon (see "'Rocket Raccoon' Nearly 300K").  Now, it seems, he’s going to cut loose a little with something he owns himself, with help from Jean-Francois Beaulieu (Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz).

The story introduces Gertrude, a 40-year-old who has been trapped in Fairyland for thirty years, and is still stuck in the same childish body she arrived in.  Being confined to a Technicolor children’s paradise for that long has made her bitter, snarky and vengeful.

"
I Hate Fairyland started from me reading countless children’s books to my son and wondering 'how do these kids in these fantasy worlds NOT want to kill every character they come across?'  Or characters in kids shows that have to listen to talking map’s sing-songs consisting of only 'I'm the map' over and over and over," Young said.  "And from that, Gertrude was born."
