Mezco Toyz has acquired a license to produce collectibles based on the anime property Gigantor, the company announced.  Products will start to hit retail in Q3 2015.

The Gigantor anime has had a couple of runs on American television.  The first series was a bowdlerized adaptation of the anime based on the Tetsujin 28-go manga, by Mitsuteru Yokoyama.  It began its run in 1964, but has also been aired more recently by Cartoon Network (see "'Gigantor' to Air on Cartoon Network").  A newer anime, produced in Japan beginning in 1980, was broadcast in the U.S. on SciFi from 1993-1997.  A live action movie was released on DVD here in the last decade (see "Geneon Has 'Saiyuki' Sequels").

A huge statue of the character was erected in the Yokoyama’s home town in 2009 (see "'Tetsujin 28' Movie").
