Cheo Hodari Coker has been signed to be executive producer and showrunner of Marvel’s Luke Cage, the third of four series being produced for Netflix, Marvel announced Tuesday. Coker will also write the first two episodes of the series, which is promised for 2016.
Coker was co-executive producer on the second season of Showtime’s stylish L.A. noir Ray Donovan, and a supervising producer on the fourth season of Southland, which won a Peabody and got Coker an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing for a Dramatic Series in 2013.
Luke Cage will be spun out of the next Netflix series (after Daredevil), AKA Jessica Jones, in which Cage will appear in six episodes. The role of Cage will be played by Mike Colter (Million Dollar Baby, Men in Black 3, see "Netflix Series Has Its Jessica Jones").
