At the GAMA Trade Show, Ares Games announced two planned Gen Con game releases: Leo Colovini’s Odyssey--Wrath of Poseidon and the pirate card game Jolly Roger.
Odyssey--Wrath of Poseidon is a Euro-style game designed by Leo Colovini (Cartagena, Aztlan, Inkognito) for 2 - 5 players. The deduction game takes place after the Trojan War, with one player taking the role of Poseidon, God of the Sea, and the others becoming Navigators: Greek sailors trying to return to their homeland after a stop at the Sacred Island to make offerings and say prayers. The game is played on two separate boards, and only Poseidon can see where the ships are actually positioned, and he hopes to confound the Navigators by producing storms to throw them off course. The blinded Navigators must gather clues to their whereabouts to stay on course, and reach the Sacred Island before the end of the game. If they do not, then Poseidon wins. MSRP is $39.90.
Jolly Roger--The Game of Piracy and Mutiny is a card game for 4 – 10 players, designed by Frederic Moyersoen (Saboteur, Nuns on the Run). In the semi-cooperative game, players take the role of crew on a pirate ship. One player taking the role of Captain and chooses the destination the ship will attack. Players cooperate in the attacks, but the main goal is get gold for themselves. Also, if the Captain makes poor choices, the rest of the crew can gang up and call “Mutiny!” and appoint a new Captain. A player’s gold isn’t safe until it’s buried on Treasure Island. The player with the most gold wins. MSRP is $19.90.
