Dominic Cooper, who has been widely rumored to star in AMC’s Preacher adaptation, is near to closing a deal for the role of Jessie Custer.

The rumors have been circulating since last month (see “'Arseface' Cast in 'Preacher' Pilot”), and now The Wrap and Tracking Board state that Cooper is in final negotiations. Cooper starred in Need for Speed, but would be more familiar to geek fans for his role as Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger and Agent Carter. He also has a role in the upcoming Warcraft movie as King Llane Qrynn.

Lucy Griffiths (True Blood) has also been cast in an unnamed role for the pilot, according to Deadline.

They will join Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy (see “Geek TV News Round-Up”), Ian Colletti as Arseface, and Ruth Negga as Tulip.
