Fox is developing a remake of the cult movie musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show as a two-hour television event, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

High School Musical’s Kenneth Ortega will direct, executive produce, and choreograph the remake, which is tentatively called The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event. The adaptation is casting-contingent. Fox 2000 had a remake in development back in 2010 when Glee ran a Rocky Horror episode (see “'Rocky Horror' Remake in Development”).  This remake will be timed to celebrate the movie’s 40th Anniversary, which will fall on September 25.

The cult hit continues to be a merchandise driver, with last year seeing publication of a revised edition of Caliber Entertainment’s Rocky Horror Picture Show The Comic Book adapted and illustrated by Kevin VanHook, as well as Running Press’ The Rocky Horror Treasury by Sal Piro and Larry Viezel.
