Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has revealed new details about the planned integration of Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Marvel struck a deal with Sony, which has the movie rights to the character, and plans to introduce the new Spider-Man in a Marvel movie, followed by a new Spider-Man film released by Sony, co-produced by Feige (see “Spider-Man to Join Marvel Cinematic Universe”).  The character has been confirmed to be Peter Parker (see “Geek Movie News Round-Up”), but little else about the new cinematic Spider-Man has been revealed.

The new take on Spider-Man will focus on Peter Parker’s high school years, Feige told Collider.  [E]ven though there’ve been five Spider-Man films, there are so many things from the comics that haven’t been done yet,” he said.  “The most obvious being the ‘young, doesn’t quite fit in’ kid before his powers, and then the fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys and doesn’t shut up, which is something we want to play with and we’re excited about.”  He expects to cast an actor that can play the character as a 15-16-year-old.

The character will also get a different costume in its new incarnation, Feige told Crave Online.  “We’ve already designed the costume, which is different than any of the ones that have come before,” he said.

The first appearance of the MCU Spider-Man is expected to be in Captain America 3, which opens May 6, 2016.  The Spider-Man film premieres July 28, 2017.
