Portal Games is teaming up with Ignacy Trzewiczek (Stronghold, Imperial Settlers) for the pirate-themed dice game Rattle, Battle, Grab the Loot.  The game is scheduled to premier at Gen Con, with worldwide distribution beginning in August.

Players are competing for the favor of the infamous Pirate King.  They seek out and raid merchant ships, hoping to grab as much loot as possible.  To resolve the effects of a fight, the dice are tossed into the box cover, with both their position in the box and the result of the roll determining the outcome.  The victorious pirates then return to port where they can spend their loot to upgrade their ships, hire new crew, or give it to the Pirate King—at the end of the game the player who gave the king the most loot wins.

The game promises to have interesting components.  In addition to the special dice and game box, the game includes more than 50 cardboard ship pieces that players assemble to build their own custom ships during play.

Rattle, Battle, Grab the Loot is Portal Games’ first dice game for the English language market, and is designed to appeal to a broader market than the company’s normal meatier gamer fare.  The game is for 2 to 5 players, ages 8 and up, and plays in about 45 to 90 minutes.  MSRP is $60.00.

Portal recently announced another game scheduled for Gen Con release, it’s first “micro game” Tides of Time (see “Portal Games’ First Micro Game”).
