WizKids has announced some changes to the rules used for Star Trek: Attack Wing tournaments. These new rulings will affect play for WizKids’ tournaments and other Attack Wing organized play events, and are based on the company’s own playtesting as well as the recent National Championships.
According to WizKids, the goal of the new rulings is to attract a greater variety of factions and ship types in both competitive and non-competitive play. According to the new rulings:
- Ships with 360-degree firing arcs have a more limited range.
- The mechanics for performing the “spin” maneuver have been changed.
- Fighter squadrons are now their own type of unit, and cannot have resources deployed on them unless they specifically affect squadrons. Also, each fighter squadron must have at least one 4+ hull point ship in the same fleet.
- Cards that do not specify when they can be played can only be played between phases.
- Mine attacks cannot be modified.
- Cards that have no card value cannot be affected by cards that can only target cards with a specific value.
WizKids has also revamped its FAQ to make it easier for players and event organizers to find answers to rules questions quickly.
WizKids recently revealed details about the 19th and 20th waves of models for its popular game line (see “Six New Models Join ‘Star Trek: Attack Wing’”).
