The cast for the NBC series Constantine has been released, as efforts to find a new home for the show were unsuccessful, showrunner Daniel Cerone tweeted on Sunday.  Cerone, who had actively cultivated the fans of the comics and show to try to keep the show alive (see “’Constantine’ Showrunner Asks for Support”), had been unsuccessful at keeping it on NBC (see “’Constantine’ Canceled”), but there had been hopes it would get picked up by another network.

“I promised I’d share news when I had it – sadly, that news is not good,” Cerone wrote.  “…The studio tried to find a new home for the show, for which we’re forever grateful, but those efforts didn’t pan out.”  Among others, Cerone thanked “the original Hellblazer writers and artists who gifted us a universe.”

The overall track record for comics-based TV shows has been outstanding over the last few years, so losing one isn’t the end of the world, but it’s unfortunate that this show, which averaged 4.5 million 18-49 viewers over its 13-episode run, couldn’t find  a network where it was a fit.
