Historical board game publisher Academy Games and its partner Asyncron Games has completed a highly successful Kickstarter campaign for its re-launch of Serge Laget’s (Shadows Over Camelot, Ad Astra)  game of ancient Mediterranean empire building Mare Nostrum (originally released in 2003).  The game is expected to ship in November.

In Mare Nostrum – Empires, the players take control of the empires of the ancient Mediterranean basin, competing to expand their influence and trade networks as they found new cities and build temples to the ancient gods.  Players must manage a variety of resources and wealth to purchase the buildings, armies, heroes, and wonders they need to advance their strategies.  Multiple victory conditions allow players to win through cultural development, economic grown, military power, or political leadership.

The game will include a game board, 2 tracking mats, 5 player mats, 12 hero tiles, 5 wonder tiles, 5 player screens, 90 3D playing pieces, 237 tokens, 14 custom dice, and 5 rules summary sheets.

Mare Nostrum is a game for 2 - 5 players, ages 12 and up, and plays in about 90 minutes.  Six different language versions will be produced, including English, French, German, Italian, Polish, and Spanish.  MSRP is $75.00.

The Mare Nostrum – Empires Kickstarter attracted 6,937 backers who pledged a total of $679,255 (average of $97.92/backer).
