Variety reports that Marvel and Sony have offered the Aunt May role to Tomei, who has recently confined her screen work to dramas (like The Wrestler) or romantic comedies like Crazy, Stupid Love.

Marisa Tomei has been offered the role of Aunt May in the reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, which is slated to debut on July 28, 2017. Tomei, who won an Academy Award for her role in My Cousin Vinny in 1982, joins 19-year-old newcomer Tom Holland, who has been cast as Peter Parker (see “Sony Finds Its New Spider-Man”). Youthful director Jon Watts (Cop Car) is on board to direct the next Spider-Man feature film.
