Actress Jenna Coleman, who plays companion Clara Oswald on BBC Television’s Doctor Who series, will leave the show during the new season, the network announced today.
Clara served as companion for both the Eleventh and Twelfth incarnation of the Doctor (Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi). The official statement did not reveal how she will part ways with the Doctor, only teasing that she will leave sometime this season.
Season 9 premieres this Saturday on BBC America.
Doctor Who is a potent geek property, with a new miniatures game recently announced by Warlord Games (see “Warlord Games Acquires 'Doctor Who' License”), and Titan Comics celebrating the property’s second annual comic day last month (see “Doctor Who' Comics Day Returns”).
