Next summer’s Independence Day sequel will be preceded by a comic book prequel, Titan Comics told THR.
The comic book series, which has neither a title nor announced talent, will be a “psychological prison drama” set after the events of the original movie, according to Titan editor Steve White.
Independence Day: Resurgence will release on June 24, 2016. The film will pick up 20 years after the alien invasion of 1996’s Independence Day feature. The world has united to form the Earth Space Defense origination, to prepare for the aliens’ inevitable retaliation. The humans have adapted recovered alien technology to help defend the planet. Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner will return to star, along with Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, and Angelababy (see “Best in Shows--Q2 2016”).
