The Crow director may walk away from the project if The Crow is included in bankrupt Relativity Media’s assets, the film’s producer stated in an objection filed in federal bankruptcy court this week.

According to The Wrap, The Crow producer Edward R. Pressman filed an objection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York to the inclusion of the project among Relativity’s assets (see “Relativity's Bankruptcy Grounds 'The Crow'”). The producer cited a lack of assurance from the stalking-horse bidder for the media company’s assets that the production will continue in a timely fashion, and on the scale (release on no less than 1,000 screens) that was expected.

Pressman elaborated that he doesn’t feel confident that Relativity’s new owner will have the capital to finance the film after purchasing the company, and the production is “in danger of losing the services of the director of the picture,” which has already lost its star, Jack Huston, in June (see “Star Cast for 'Crow' Remake”).

According to the filing, Relativity has invested more than $7 million in The Crow remake, including $2.5 million to acquire and maintain the property’s remake, sequel and prequel rights. Pressman will regain those rights if principal photography doesn’t begin within the next 18 months.
