Warner Bros. has tapped Seth Grahame-Smith, author of the mash-up horror novels, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, to write and direct a film based on the DC Comics’ character The Flash that already has a release date of March 3, 2018.  Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative duo behind The LEGO Movie, have already written a treatment for a Flash film, and were considering directing the film, but ditched the idea in favor of helming a Star Wars spin-off film (see "'The Flash' Movie Treatment" and "'LEGO Movie' Helmers To Direct 'Han Solo' 'Star Wars' Spin-Off").

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Grahame-Smith also has a LEGO connection, he is writing the LEGO-Batman screenplay at Warner Bros.  So far Grahame-Smith’s involvement in movies has only been as a screenwriter, though he did direct several episodes of a sitcom he created for MTV.

The Flash of course is also currently starring on a very popular TV series on the CW network, which features Grant Gustin as "The Fastest Man Alive."  If The Flash TV series is still on the air in 2018, it could make The Flash movie project especially problematic.  The "movie" Flash will be portrayed by actor Ezra Miller, who will make his screen debut as the Scarlet Speedster in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.  There was already some dissension in the ranks at Warner Bros. over The Flash movie announcement (see "'Arrow' Star Slams Warner Bros. For 'Flash' Movie Announcement"), and that could be just a prelude to the reaction of fans of the TV series, who will certainly scrutinize with extreme rigor any Flash movie that doesn’t feature their favorite actors.
