Fox’s remake of John Carpenter’s Escape from New York has found a scriptwriter in Neil Cross, THR is reporting.

Cross is the creator of the BBC crime-drama Luther, and his writing credits include the script for the horror film Mama, as well as episodes of MI-5, Doctor Who, and Crossbones. According to THR, Fox is hoping to relaunch the franchise as a series, similar to what it did with Planet of the Apes.

The 1981 film was written and directed by John carpenter, who is involved in the reboot as an executive producer and creative consultant (see “Fox Plans 'Escape from New York' Reboot”).  The 1996 sequel ,Escape from L.A, was also written and directed by Carpenter.

BOOM! Studios began releasing a comic series based on the property last year (see “ 'Escape from New York' Comic”).
