New York Comic Con News: Dark Horse Comics announced that it will publish the Moebius Library, a series of hardcover volumes featuring the work Moebius (Jean Giraud), one of the most influential comic book artists of the 20th Century.  The works of Moebius, who took the Franco/Belgian "clear line" style to new levels of expressiveness, range from realistic Western sagas (Lieutenant Blueberry) to highly stylized cutting edge designs for groundbreaking works like the wordless graphic novel Arzach, and the non-linear cosmic narrative of The Airtight Garage.

The new Dark Horse volumes will make the Moebius Library material available in the U.S. for the first time in almost 20 years.  Marvel published 11 trade paperback collections of Moebius’ work under its Epic imprint from 1987-1994 (and some of the volumes were later reprinted in a deluxe signed and numbered format by Graphitti Designs).  Moebius’s artistic influence can be seen in the works of a wide variety of cutting edge artists, but it is perhaps most pronounced in some of the films of anime Grand Master Hayao Miyazaki, whose has stated unequivocally: “I directed Nausicaa under Moebius’ influence”

Moebius’ impact on 20th Century culture extended beyond the world of animation and comics.  He contributed designs and concept art for a number of live-action films including Ridley Scott’s Alien, Tron, and Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element.

Dark Horse will be releasing additional information about the Moebius Library in the near future.
