Two TV series tied to the X-Men mythos are in the works at Fox-owned channels, the networks announced Wednesday.  Marvel and the Fox Television Group had revealed that they were in discussions on one series in August (see "Fox Negotiating for 'X-Men' TV Series"), but the companies have now doubled down.

20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television will produce a series set in the 1960s tentatively titled Hellfire, focusing on The Hellfire Club, created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne in their long run on Uncanny X-Men.   As was previously revealed, the pilot script will be written by Star Trek 3 writing duo Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne.  Evan Katz and Manny Coto (24), who will serve as the series’ showrunners, will also share a ‘created by’ credit with McKay and Payne.  Katz and Coto, along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, and Simon Kinberg from the Fox side, and Jeph Loeb, and Jim Chory from Marvel will executive produce the pilot.

The series will be set in the 1960s and focus on a special agent who learns that a superpowered woman is working with a society of millionaires to take over the world.  20th Century Fox will handle the physical production of the series.

In the more surprising announcement of the two, FX Networks has ordered a pilot for Legion, focusing on Charles Xavier’s mutant son, also co-created by Chris Claremont, with Bill Sienkiewicz.  Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley is set to write and exec produce the pilot with Donner, Singer, Kinberg,Loeby, Chory, and Fargo collaborator John Cameron.  FX Productions will handle the physical production for the FX-Marvel Television co-production.
