Bushiroad has announced a new expansion for its Weiss Schwarz trading card game based on the animated series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, scheduled to release on January 22.

The series follows the adventures of high school student Haruhi Suzumiya, her friend Kyon, and the “SOS Brigade” club ( “Spreading Excitement all Over the World with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade”) as they seek out supernatural events.  Little does Haruhi know that she has powerful reality-warping abilities, and that the SOS Brigade are really spies sent to keep those powers in check.

The Weiss Schwarz: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya expansion features characters and events from the series.  It will be available in 8-card booster packs, sold in displays of 20 packs each.  There will be 100 different cards in the complete set, along with 16 parallel cards.  There will also be two varieties of gold foil hot stamp chase cards signed by voice actor Aya Hirano, randomly inserted into some packs.

The English language version of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya expansion does not include gold/silver campaign coupons or PR cards from the Japanese Edition.  They may only be used in tournaments held outside of Japan.

The new expansion will release about a month after the Love Live! Vol. 2 expansion, releasing in December (see “‘Weiss Schwarz:  Love Live!’ Expands”).
