Several geek-related film projects saw updates in the last few weeks, and here we round them up.

Filming has begun on War for the Planet of the Apes, the latest in the popular series, which will see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves return.  Several actors, including Judy Greer (pictured here), are returning to reprise roles from the series' previous films, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tracking Board is reporting that Mattel is developing a film based on the Dino-Riders, a property which was part of the Marvel Action universe in the 1980s.  The story centered on the hero Quester and his people the Valorians, who fight the evil Emperor Krulos and the Rulons.  Both groups were accidently sent 65 million years into the past, so they harnessed the dinosaurs to continue their battles.  Mattel is teaming with Solipsist Film for the production, with Alissa Phillips and Stephen L’Heureux producing.

The Paramount and Bad Robot Micronauts movie project which has been in development since 2009 (see " J.J. Abrams in Talks for 'Micronauts' Movie") has a new writer in Tom Wheeler (Puss in Boots), according to Deadline.  The adaptation of the Hasbro sci-fi toy line also has a new IDW comic series launching next spring, written by Cullen Bunn, and drawn by David Baldeon  (see "'Dark Jem,' 'Mars Attacks' Returns, 'Best of DC War,' More").

Rosario Dawson has been cast as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the Lego Batman movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The spin-off from The Lego Movie, which recast the Dark Knight as an arrogant, selfish jerk, was announced in 2014 (see "'LEGO Movie' Batman Will Get His Own Movie"), and will release in February 2017 (see "Best in Shows--Q1 2017").
