The Super Dungeon series of games combines traditional fantasy adventure elements with ideas taken from classic video games. Playable either as a cooperative game or in the overlord style, players control fantasy heroes against hordes of monsters. The heroes must work together to destroy the monster “spawn points,” ultimately forcing the “boss monster” to appear for a final showdown.
Packed with chibi-style models from Soda Pop Miniatures, Super Dungeon Explore: 2nd Edition forms the core of the game experience, including everything that new players need to get started. In the box are 2 sets of rules (“classic” and “arcade” mode), 4 double sided game boards, 8 hero models, 22 monster models, more than 100 cards, counters, and 12 dice.Super Dungeon Legends introduces role-playing elements to the game, for the first time allowing players to link multiple adventures together into a campaign. Players can unlock new abilities for their characters as the campaign goes on. The box includes rules for character development and for creating adventures and campaigns. Two campaigns are included in the box, and Ninja Division plans to release new adventures and campaigns to support the line.
The Super Dungeon Legends boxed set includes 3 rulebooks, 6 dice, 10 board tiles, more than 500 cards, 5 “Hero Dashboards” for organizing components during play, and game tokens.
Three expansion sets round out the planned releases: The Midnight Tower, Frostbyte Ravagers, and Crown Guard:The Midnight Tower is the largest of the three expansions, including 3 new hero models, 3 new boss models, 22 monster models, and game cards.
Frostbyte Ravagers will include a new hero model, 15 monster models, and game cards.
Crown Guard features 1 new hero, 17 new monsters, and game cards.
All five titles were combined together into a single Kickstarter campaign which proved very successful. The campaign collected over $1 million dollars in pledges from more than 5,000 backers.
The new titles are part of Ninja Division’s growing plans for the “Super Dungeon World,” which were revealed to ICv2 by the company’s Creative Director John Cadice at this summer’s Gen Con (see “Sci-Fi / Western ‘Rail Raiders’ Game From Ninja Division”).
Three new expansions were recently released for the game series (see “Three New ‘Super Dungeon Explore’ Expansions”).
