Netflix has won a bidding war for a new TV series remaking Irwin Allen’s 1960s classic Lost in Space, according to Deadline. Neil Marshall, who’s recently directed episodes of Constantine, Game of Thrones, and Black Sails, is expected to direct and executive produce.  Other exec prdoucers will be feature writers Matt Sazama and Bruk Sharpless, Kevin Burns of Synthesis Entertainment, formed to develop Irwin Allen properties, and Marc Helwig of Legendary TV-based Applebox.

The story will follow a young explorer family lost in an alien universe.

Lost in Space has been in development as a new series at various times, including at Fox in the early 00s (see “’Lost in Space’ and ‘Time Tunnel’ to Return to TV”).

A Blu-ray boxed set of the 1960s series was released in September (see “DVD Round-Up”).

Last summer, FM Comics announced plans to release a new Lost in Space comics story (see “FM Comics to Publish ‘Lost in Space:  Season 4’”).
