The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled against the heirs of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel in the long-running litigation over the rights to the character, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The court upheld the District Court ruling that the family had transferred the rights to Superman in 2001 (see "DC Owns Superboy"). Around the same time, DC began running a new credit to Siegel in its books featuring Superman.
The court said of the 2001 agreement that the Siegels “bargained with their statutory termination power in hand to negotiate a highly remunerative new agreement” and that it should stand.
The court ruled against the family of the other co-creator, Joe Shuster, in 2014 (see "Shuster Heirs Lose Again").
