Dark Horse Comics has announced the June 15 launch of Weird Detective, a new, creator-owned, Lovecraftian mystery series written by Fred Van Lente (Marvel Zombies, X-Men Noir) and illustrated by Guiu Vilanova.  Weird Detective reunites Van Lente and Vilanova, who worked together on Dark Horse’s Conan the Avenger.

Weird Detective has been described as a pulpy stew of crime horror and mystery as Cthulhu cops, the Innsmouth Mafia, telepathic cats, and other crimes against sanity stalk the streets of New York.  The city has been plagued by a pattern of crimes too weird and bizarre for the average detective. Lurking in the evidence are shadows of loathsome horrors from beyond space and time, seeking to usher in the unimaginable evil of the Old Ones in a supernatural police procedural project that Van Lente describes as “the bastard child” of his love for H.P. Lovecraft and cop shows.

The first issue of Weird Detective will contain all 24 pages of the series’ 3-part debut in Dark Horse Presents plus twenty-two brand new pages—all for a cover price of $3.99.

Dark Horse recently announced a Halo Graphic Novel Anthology (see “Dark Horse Plans Halo GN Anthology”).
