Tasty Minstrel Games has unveiled its version of Colosseum, originally published by Days of Wonder in 2007, to be called Colosseum: Emperor’s Edition and releasing in the first quarter of 2017. The game is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.

Designed by Wolfgang Kramer (El Grande, Tikal) and Markus Lubke, Colosseum puts players in the shoes of Roman magistrates who must put on a series of entertainments for the people of Rome.  Players earn wealth and prestige by putting on spectacles, with greater rewards for more elaborate shows.  Wealth is used to improve the arena, hire performers, and lure nobles to the show.

The Emperor’s Edition will feature new artwork and upgraded components, including metal coins, silk-screened “meeples,” and layered Colosseum pieces for an improved visual appeal to the game.  The game will include 1 game board, 10 arena pieces, 10 arena expansions, 5 Emperor’s loges, 10 season tickets, 5 scoring columns, 6 character pieces, 80 metal coins, 152 event tokens, 1 cloth bag, 20 even scrolls, 18 emperor medals, 4 podiums, 7 star performer tiles, 2 dice, 5 player reference cards, 1 start player token, and 1 round counter.  MSRP is $79.95.

The game has raised $120,724 from 1,864 backers ($67.77 / backer average) as of this writing with 58 hours to go.
