Titan Comics will release a new ongoing comic series based on the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood debuting on July 6, the third annual Doctor Who Comics Day.
The new series will be penned by Captain Jack (John Barrowman) along with Carole E. Barrowman. The series will be illustrated by Antonio Fuso (Drive, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest) and Pasquale Qualano (Batman ’66, She Hulk, Harley Quinn). Variant covers for the first issue will be done by Tommy Lee Edwards, Elena Casagrande, Blair Shedd, and Rod Reis.
In the series, Captain Jack returns to Cardiff to enlist Gwen Cooper’s help in stopping a cataclysmic event which may destroy the Earth. Technology from a forgotten alien race is being used by evil forces to unleash a wave of destruction. It’s up to the fellows of Torchwood to put aside their differences and take on another catastrophe.
Torchwood, a spinoff of the popular BBC sci-fi program Doctor Who, ran for four seasons. The show aired on the US premium network Starz in the U.S. (see “'Torchwood' Starts with 1.5 Million”). In October 2012, showrunner Russell T. Davies put the show on indefinite hiatus for personal reasons.
