IDW Publishing will release a new graphic biography of grunge singer Kurt Cobain from French artist Nicolas Otero in October.

The graphic novel is based on the French novel Le Roman de Boddah by Heloise Guay de Bellissen. The story details the life of Nirvana’s lead singer though the eyes of his imaginary friend Boddah, whom Cobain spoke to and referenced often in his journals and even addressed in his suicide note.

The adaptation is written and illustrated by Otero, who said that the two tales will be very different takes on the same material. “Le Roman de Boddah” was “a good base to build my own story, but there’s nothing comparable between the two books now,” Otero told The Washington Post. “I rewrote so many things, broke the narrative structure, made some strong choices and put so much of myself in it.”

The 152-page, 7” x 11” full color hardcover has an MSRP of $24.99.
