On January 3, 2017, IDW Publishing will release Micronauts Volume 1, collecting the first six issues of the action figure-inspired series.

Inspired by the Micronauts toy line that was originally released by Mego between 1976 and 1980, the series is written by Cullen Bunn, drawn by David Baldeon and Max Dunbar, and sports a cover by JH Williams III. The 152-page, full color trade paperback has an MSRP of $19.99.

IDW is the latest publisher to take on the comics incarnation of the toys. Marvel published two series between 1979 and 1986, and Image and Devil’s Due each published short runs in the early 2000s.

In 2015, Hasbro and Paramount Pictures announced that Micronauts would be part of an expanded film universe alongside Transformers, G.I. Joe, ROM, Visionaries, and M.A.S.K. (see “The '80s Toy Box Explodes Onscreen in Cross-Property Film Universe”). In April, the writers room for the interconnected films was released, with a roster including fan favorites Brian K. Vaughan and Michael Chabon under the oversight of Akiva Goldsman (see “Hasbro Assembles Writers Room for Cinematic Universe”).
