New York Comic Con News: Dark Horse Comics has announced the June 2017 publication of Legend of Korra: Turf Wars, the first volume in a long awaited three-part Legend of Korra graphic novel series written by Michael Dante DiMartino, the co-creator of the Nickelodeon Legend of Korra series.  Irene Koh (Batgirl, 1602) will provide the interior art, while Heather Campbell, who did the cover the 2016 Free Comic Book Day Legend of Korra, will do the covers.  This series was originally announced at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2015 (see “Dark Horse Announces Legend of the Korra Comics”), with a different artist attached, but appears to be on track now for its June 2017 launch.

Bryan Konietzko, who created Legend of Korra (and Avatar) with DiMartino, is consulting of the script for the new Legend of Korra graphic novel trilogy, which will serve as the official continuation of the Nickelodeon series.  Turf Wars begins with Korra and Asami leaving the spirit world and returning to Republic City only to find political hijinks and human vs. spirit conflict, as a pompous developer plans to turn the new spirit portal into an amusement park, potentially severing an already tumultuous connection with the spirits.

Just as The Legend of Korra succeeded Avatar on Nickelodeon, so Dark Horse’s Legend of Korra graphic novels will continue the tradition of the publisher’s highly successful Avatar volumes, which did well in both the direct and bookstore markets.
