High Rock Press will release Darren Watts’ Golden Age Champions roleplaying game and a new edition of The Encyclopedia of Golden Age Superheroes in March 2017.

Darren Watts is former president of Hero Games (see “Down to One at Hero”) and was the primary writer on RPGs including Champions Universe, Millennium City and Hidden Lands. He has also written for the Doctor Who RPG and Masks.

Golden Age Champions is set between 1938 and 1950, in the earliest days of superheroic storytelling. The book includes a detailed examination of the comics of the era and provides guidelines for simulating all the elements and aspects of the time period. There is extensive information for creating superheroes and villains, including Package Deals, expanded rules for Skills, Perks, Talents and Powers, and over 60 premade characters. The book includes a detailed timeline of the entire period, including war battles, politics, science and popular culture.  MSRP will be $50.00.

The project is also producing The Encyclopedia of Gold Age Superheroes (Second Edition), which is a resource for information on the heroes of comics’ Golden Age (1935 – 1949). The book includes a Taxonomy, breaking down characters by category, including gender and creator (or co-creators). MSRP was not announced.

The Kickstarter has raised over $13,000 from more than 190 backers as of this writing, with 22 days to reach its $20,000 goal. There is a retailer level for $90.00 for four copies of Golden Age Champions.

Watts told ICv2 High Rock Press sells its books primarily through Indie Press Revolution, but is planning a trade release as well.
