On November 24, Games Workshop will release the long-awaited new edition of its fantasy football board game Blood Bowl.

The original version of Blood Bowl was released back in 1986, offering a mash-up of the fantasy world of Workshop’s Warhammer and American-style football.  The game quickly became a hit, spawning numerous expansions and new editions.  Now, after a lengthy hiatus, the game is being released in a new, fourth edition.

Like the earlier editions, the new Blood Bowl features ultra-violent football games between teams drawn from Warhammer’s fantasy races.  The core box comes with human and orc teams, each composed of a dozen colored push-fit plastic players with decals.  A double-sided game board, two player boards, two sets of custom dice, plastic templates, game cards, and two reference sheets are also included, providing everything needed to play in one box.  MSRP is $99.00.

Players who want more variety in their teams can add on the Blood Bowl: Death Zone Season 1 expansion set, which includes rules for dwarf, skaven, nurgle, and elven teams, as well as rules for running a Blood Bowl league.  MSRP is $25.00.

The rat-men are also represented in their own expansion, the Skavenblight Scramblers.  This kit includes 12 skaven players, assembly guide, decals, and team roster.  MSRP is $35.00.

True skaven fans can even add the Skaven Dice Cube, which comes with 10 “warpstone” effect Blood Bowl dice in the skaven’s favorite green color.  MSRP is $12.50.

Games Workshop has been relaunching a number of older titles with updates and new components this year, including Warhammer Quest (see “GW Pulls ‘Warhammer Quest’ From its Vaults”) and Lost Patrol (see “‘Lost Patrol’ Returns”).
