Games Workshop said its sales and profits were up over the previous year and over expectations in its half year ended with November in a statement this week.  The company said it expects an operating profit of £13 million for the half year; last year it made £4.7 million in the same six month period (see "Games Workshop Warns of Sales Shortfall").

Sales and profits are up in constant currency, and have also benefited from a weaker pound.

In its last full year, which ended May 29, Games Workshop made an operating profit of £26.8 million on sales of £118 million, both up slightly over the previous year.  The company is opening stores rapidly; it opened 16 (net) stores in North America in its year ended May 29, bringing its total to 100, and plans to open 20 stores per year going forward.  The focus is still on what it calls "one-man stores;" 86 of its North American stores are in that format.
