Staking a claim in America’s largest metropolis, Amazon will open a 4000 square foot bookstore in Manhattan, The Wall Street Journal reports.  The store will be located in the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle.

By our count, this will the online behemoth’s fifth store of this format, following stores in Seattle, San Diego, Portland, and most recently, Chicago (see "Amazon Opening Store in Chicago").

Amazon is also looking at a second Manhattan location in a development opening 2018 in Hudson Yards, according to the report.

Amazon’s stores in this format focus on discovery and on promoting Amazon’s top products and services, we found during our visit to the first of these new stores, pictured above (see "ICv2 Visits the Amazon Brick and Mortar Store").

Amazon has also been pursuing an aggressive pop-up store strategy, primarily focused on selling its devices (see "Amazon Gets Physical with Aggressive Pop-Up Store Strategy").
