There has been a lot of movement on upcoming geek film productions in the last week, and we round up the news here.

In last week’s announcement of Black Adam getting a Shazam spin-off movie (see “Black Adam Gets His Own Movie”), THR indicated that “one source” said that Henry Gayden (Earth to Echo) was working on the Shazam script. Gayden confirmed the report on Twitter over the weekend, “Confirmed and loving what’s to come.” No announcements of director or lead actor have been made.

The third solo Wolverine movie, Logan, will be rated R, the director confirmed this morning on Twitter. “Official: Please be advised that Logan has been rated R for ‘strong brutal violence and language throughout, and for brief nudity,’” James Mangold tweeted. Based on footage from the previews, including red band trailers (see “Wolverine and X-23 Unleash the Action in New 'Logan' Trailer”), the rating was suspected, but no one would comment until the film was reviewed by the MPAA.

Shout! Factory and Toei Animation announced a new multi-picture deal to bring Toei’s action-adventure anime film series Digimon Adventure tri. to North American home entertainment.  The deal grants Shout! Factory exclusive North American rights to the first three movies (including English voice cast). The first movie Digimon Adventure tri – Reunion is planned to release this year.

Warner Bros. Animation, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have announced Christina Ricci (Sleepy Hollow, Black Snake Moan) and Miguel Ferrer (RoboCop, Iron man 3, Adventure Time) have joined the voice cast for the animated feature Teen Titans: Judas Contract. According to THR, Ricci will play Teen Titans member Terra, and Ferrer will be voicing the villainous Deathstroke. Veteran DC voice actors Sean Maher, Kari Wahlgren, Jake T. Austin, Taissa Farmiga, Brandon Soo Hoo and Stuart Allan will also return.

Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, Transformers Prime), Christopher Plumme (Up, A Beautiful Mind), and Doug Bradley (Hellraiser) have been cast as voice actors in the animated feature Howard Lovecraft and the Undersea Kingdom, Deadline is reporting. The film is based on the Arcana graphic novel of the same name by Bruce Brown and Dwight L. MacPherson.  Sean Patrick O’Reiley will write, direct and produce the film, which is scheduled for release in late 2017.
