DC has announced the expansion of their Young Animal slate with the addition of Bug!: The Adventures of Forager.

The title is a family affair, with Lee, Mike, and Laura Allred writing, drawing, and coloring the six-issue miniseries. The first issue is set to debut on May 10.

The series focuses on Forager - a creation of the great Jack Kirby - who originally appeared in New Gods #9. Forager comes from a society of humanoid insects, and he finds himself in a strange new realm, where he must battle the evil General Electric for the fate of the Multiverse.

Young Animal is a pop up imprint courtesy of Umbrella Academy creator Gerard Way (see “DC Announces Gerard Way Pop-Up Imprint”). The slate for the imprint originally consisted of four titles: Doom Patrol; Shade, The Changing Girl; Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye, and Mother Panic (see “Preview: DC Young Animal Titles”).

"The Allred's brand of wild and weird fits perfectly with what we are doing,” said Way, “and in some ways inspired various aspects of the imprint - so it only makes sense to bring them in to do what they do best. We can’t wait to show you what they're cooking up and hope this is the first of many family projects for the imprint that they’ll be involved in.”

Bug! debuts in the year of Kirby’s centennial birthday, which DC is commemorating with special miniseries and events throughout 2017 (see “DC Celebrates Jack Kirby's Birthday”).
