Jay Bardyla of Happy Harbor Comics in Edmonton, Alberta, saw retailer comments on holiday shipping (see “Kirby Tardy of Tardy's Collectors Corner on Holiday Shipping Schedule”) and says Canadian retailers are also affected by holidays, depending on when they fall:

In response to Mr. Tardy, I made similar comments just over a year ago when Canadian shipments were unnecessarily held for American holidays. I was taken to task by several American retailers to stop complaining as it really had no impact on my business, (even though it did create a two-week-in-a-row shipping delay) even though I had made no comments about losing money to the competition, I just talked about the disruption to habitual buyers (see “Jay Bardyla of Happy Harbor Comics on Holiday Shipping”).

Since it’s a fair question, I will attempt to offer some explanation.  It may have to do with when items are shipped from the warehouses.  With product from Canadian stores needing to be in the country before the weekend, the American holiday doesn’t affect work schedules, and with no simultaneous Canadian holiday, everything runs normally.  With shipping to America retailers, I assume that the difference in timing would play into the delays, coupled against the regional level playing field factor.
