Andy Battaglia of Comics Etc. in Rochester, New York saw the news that Diamond was not shipping new product between Christmas and New Year's, and feels it will hurt sales in his store:
Diamond Comics has announced that they will not deliver any comics during the week between Christmas and New Year's, thereby depriving retailers of new product during one of the busiest weeks of the year. Diamond claims they are doing this because they can't manage to get the books to retailers in 3-day zones. However, since Diamond has the books in their possession at least two weeks before they ship them, this excuse does not fly. It would not be so difficult to arrange to send those shipments out one day early.
The week after Christmas is historically one of my best weeks of the year. Many people are on vacation from work that week, as their companies shut down over the holidays. Students are home from college and out of school. Customers, who have spent money on others as Christmas approaches now spend money on themselves. This all adds up to a great week and the profits from this week are how I am able to pay for my own family's Christmas. Diamond has chosen to play Scrooge this Christmas. Perhaps we will get lucky and they will all be visited by ghosts who will once again turn them into human beings. I won't hold my breath waiting.
