Jay Bardyla of Happy Harbor Comics & Toys, a four-store chain in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, found where the tourists went on Free Comic Book Day:
The rest of the world can thank us now, since it seemed that everyone was on vacation in Jasper, Alberta on the holiday weekend! We had our best sales for comics, toys and merchandise ever in our 4-year history and even our BBQ did exceptionally well. While a few locals were in the store, it was the tourists that grabbed all the goodies and I'm sure they will, in turn, seek out their closest comic shop when they get home. Again, you're welcome.
It's still sad to not see any Bongo comics or Bone but we easily had little girls thrilling over Amelia Rules! Overall, it was a fantastic event and easily our best FCBD yet. I'm not sure what to think about next year; should we try and keep that long holiday weekend or go back to May? Whatever, we should NOT move it again. Too many people knew it was an annual event and all were confused as to why it changed dates. Now, we're stuck with an even more difficult decision.
I would like to thank all the companies that supported FCBD with inexpensive books, Diamond for getting them to us, for the volunteers that worked the day with Shawna and myself (Janna, James & Yves) and here's looking forward to next year!
