Sony's DVD of Mark Steven Johnson's adaptation of Marvel's Ghost Rider comic was #1 in both DVD sales and rentals for the week ending June 17th.  Ghost Rider, which stars Nicholas Cage and Eva Mendes, earned a somewhat surprising $115.8 million at the domestic box office with 39.2% coming during its opening weekend ($45.4 million).  The film, which cost $110 million to produce, earned $227.8 million worldwide.

 

Sony released a two-disc Extended Cut (123 minutes) DVD (MSRP $34.95) as well as regular Widescreen and Fullscreen editions (110 minutes, MSRP $28.95).  The Ghost Rider DVDs, which were released on June 12th, roared out of the gate and topped the VideoScan DVD sales charts while bringing in $8.9 million in rentals during its first five days of release.
