One anime, Tekkonkinkreet (see 'Tekkonkinkreet'), is among the twelve films have been submitted to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for consideration for the Animated Feature Film Oscar.  Persepolis turns up in this category as well as in Foreign Language Film (see 'France Enters Persepolis for Oscar').  The other submissions make up a wide range of animation techniques, themes, and target audiences.
