In its first week of release Spider-Man 3 topped the First Alert DVD sales charts displacing Transformers, which had reigned for two weeks straight.  Spider-Man 3 not only took the top spot, a box set of all 3 Spider-Man films came in at #5 in spite of a $38.96 price tag, and Spidey 3 also easily topped the Blu-Ray charts.

Just as Transformers toys will likely nose out Spider-Man action figures end up the #1 boys' toy line of 2007, the Transformers DVD, which got off to a tremendous start (see 'Transformers 2007's Hottest DVD So Far') may well end up as the #1 release of the year, though Spider-Man 3, which will most likely be the 2007 box office champion, should provide its most potent competition.  The Transformers DVD remained a strong number two in its third week of release and appears now to the disk to beat in 2007 though, like Spider-Man 3, Shrek the Third and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End also have a chance to end up on top.

Spider-Man 3 topped the DVD rental chart with an estimated take of $9.7 million, while Transformers was a strong number two with $7 million (a mere 18% drop from its second week performance).
