Universal has obtained movie rights for the Oni comic series Resurrection, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Resurrection is written by Marc Guggenheim, who has an extensive portfolio in both TV (The Practice, Law & Order, CSI: Miami) and comics (for example, Amazing Spider-Man, see “Amazing Spider-Man Creators Named,” and, with Hugh Jackman, Nowhere Man, see “Jackman, Gugenheim Team Up for Nowhere Man”); with art by David Dumeer.
Films based on two other Oni properties, Scott Pilgrim and Leading Man, are in development at Universal.
It looks like Whiteout, due out this fall, will be the first film out based on an Oni property.
