First introduced in 1993, the Star Wars Galaxy all-art trading card series was an immediate hit, even though there wasn’t a lot going on in the Star Wars universe at that time. Topps eventually brought out three series of Star Wars Galaxy cards and two coffee table/art book collections that together encompassed more than 350 pieces of Star Wars art. In February of 2009 Topps will continue the tradition of presenting diverse artistic interpretations of the Star Wars universe with an all-new fourth series of Star Wars Galaxy Trading Cards, which will be available primarily in hobby and comics shops.
A foil-stamped reprint of the legendary, ultra-rare “Yoda P2” promo card is just one of the many special cards featured in the new 130-card Star Wars Galaxy Series 4 set. Highlights and subsets from Series 4 include: “New Visions,” over 50 new paintings from up-and-coming comics artists and fantasy illustrators; “Lost Galaxy, a collection of never-before-seen Galaxy art; “The Force Unleashed,” dazzling visuals from LucasArts’ red hot new video game; “Signed Vintage Cards,” with autographs from many of the original Galaxy artists; “One-of-a Kind Sketches,” rendered on innovative “shaped sketch cards” as well as on normal size cards; plus “Posters, Comic & Book Cover Art,” iconic images featured on cards for the first time.
The primary packaging illustration for Star Wars Galaxy Series 4 (also available on a promotional window poster) is a new epoch-spanning illustration by Star Wars artist Russell Walks. Look for more information about this set to be announced in the coming months.
