Marvel announced details of its Fantastic Four #60 $.09 issue, coming August 28th, and in keeping with the pricing made sure to contrast its book with DC's 10 Cent Batman (see 'Ten Cent Batman Boffo') at every opportunity.  The book will be the first Mark Waid/Mike Wieringo issue, a strong editorial product.  Beyond the implicit one-upmanship (one-downmanship?) of the pricing, Marvel's announcement also went after DC's package and tie-ins.  '...[B]ut don't think you're only getting part of a story!  No, this isn't some whimpy, 12-page tale padded with promo material,' Marvel's announcement said, 'and neither is it merely a lead-in to a sprawling 30-part crossover.  Nope, for your hard-earned pennies you'll get an entire 32-page comic -- complete with a beginning, middle and end!'  Where will it end, with 1 cent trade paperbacks?  We can only hope.

This will be a nice follow-up to DC's promotionally priced book and the very successful first Free Comic Book Day as a way to reach out to new consumers with a sample product at little or not cost.  And a good team on the venerable Fantastic Four is a bonus.
