Benderspink, the production company that is working on a variety of comic-based projects including Y: The Last Man, Pet Robots, and Ghouly Boys, has hired Dirk Blackman and Howard McCann to adapt the Red 5 comic Zombies of Mass Destruction. Beckman and McCann both wrote and directed the science fiction movie Outlander and scripted the recently released Underworld Rise of the Lycans.

Benderspink optioned Zombies of Mass Destruction last July (see “Zombies of Mass Destruction Optioned”).  Kevin Grevioux, the creator of the Zombies of Mass Destruction comic, wrote the original 2003 Underworld movie.  With the growing popularity of the zombie genre, this very original take on the undead (zombie soldiers created to fight in a Mid-East conflict get out of hand and have to be stopped) could be on the fast track.  The news in The Hollywood Reporter that high profile writers have been assigned to the project bodes well for its chances to make it to the screen.
