Variety is reporting that Twentieth Century Fox has decided to push back the release of the romantic comedy All About Steve, which stars Sandra Bullock, from March 6th until the fall in an effort to avoid head-to-head competition with Watchmen, which opens March 6th.

Fox now has a stake in Watchmen thanks to the settlement of a dispute with Warner Bros. (see “Watchmen Case Settled”), but, according to Variety, “In the summer, studios often counter-program against fanboy-driven pics with female titles. At the same time, All About Steve would have had to compete with Watchmen for younger girls.”  So it appears that the producers of All About Steve just figure that Watchmen is going to be a major event movie that will suck the air out of the box office and appeal to a wide demographic.
